Changes

There have been a lot of changes in my life lately, but I'm taking them in stride. It's just one day at a time and I'm proud to say that.

And in a complete change of topic - cause I like to keep you on your toes - I went to the Shelton Winery with my family a few weeks ago, we had a great time. It was a nice distraction from the every day. Beautiful day, good wine, and family. What more can you ask for??

Lately things have been a little.... off.... for me (for lack of a better term). I don't really want to go into all the details but this did make me smile - Joy the baker and her delicious post about cake. Unfortunately I can't make this cake because of the almond extract (dumb allergies) but am currently looking into alternatives for it. I sure hope this post makes you smile, even if it is just a little, just like it did for me.

Ladies and gents - I'd like to introduce you to my latest hobby. Baking. So far I have not been too ambitious to start making up my own recipes but I sure know where I can get some good ones when the mood strikes. Joy the Baker. She's an absolute delight to read and I'm sure just as charming in person. I would love to meet her some day! Too bad I don't live in Cali... Any ways, here's a delightful new recipe I just worked on - Avocado Pound Cake! Don't knock it until you try it!

So today I spent some time editing some photos I shot a while ago. It was nice, refreshing actually. I got a chance to really spend some time sorting through my photos - see what I liked, what had potential. It made me realize that life is a lot like that - you sort through the good... and the bad, just to find what has potential.

I've been thinking lately - I'm blessed to be unemployed right now. It's change that's welcome. I know there is something else out there for me and I'll find it when it's time for me to find it but for right now I'll just focus on editing my photos.

Wow, that was a really long break.

Hi guys, I'm so sorry I haven't posted in a long time. At first I was having trouble with my computer, now it's my camera. It's a sad state of affairs actually but I know it will all get worked out soon!

While taking a bloggin break I was in Boston for a few days. I must say it was simply amazing. I loved it and can't wait to go back to a place "where everyone knows your name"

The end of last week I became the proud owner of some new Four Seasons Cups by Bailey Doesn't Bark.

I was so very lucky to have won a contest hosted by Bailey of her gold leafed cups. They are hand decorated with a 23K gold tree representing each season. I stumbled upon this site via a Twitter tweet - Cardboard Love - and I am totally in love with the simplicity of the whole site, not to mention the cute pieces of cardboard with sweet nothings on them. Enjoy and pass along some sweet nothings to your special ones!

Unfortunately my little blog needs a break. It's not really a wanted break, it's more of a forced break. Like I mentioned last week, I'm still having some troubles resizing my images. The files sizes are huge and my little computer is really feeling it. I'm still working on the issue and will hopefully have it fixed soon! I'm totally guilty of them! For example, making new year's resolutions and starting them on Jan. 1... I came across this post on a friend's blog earlier today and it hits really close to home for me. For those of you who know me, I have been going through a bit of a rough time lately and I am very greatful to see the out pooring of support for the McClenahan Family.

Though I have never met them, their story just breaks my heart... what a beautiful little girl and what great parents. This is important and I want to spread the word about it. Their daughter was diagnosed with terminal cancer at only 10 months old.

Her family wants to honor their daughter with a playground. Please visit the Etsy shop to help this family make their dream come true. 100% of the proceeds go towards Cora's Playground. My prayers go out to this family, may they find the peace they are looking for.

Weather - it's typically the first thing most people chat about when they come to a lull in the conversation. Well here are some seriously interesting weather events that give people something to discuss. (Thanks to mental floss for this link)

Speaking of weather, it was a bit rainy in Savannah this weekend but it didn't detour us from having a great time this past weekend. Savannah is an awesome place to explore! Take the Mercer House for example. The Mercer's never actually lived in this house since construction was interrupted by the civil war. In 1969 the house was sold to Jim Williams - an avid collector or antiques, and a very quirky man.

Some may know Mr. Williams from his association of the death of Danny Hansford as told in the novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil... which was also made into a movie. Savannah has a lot of history and even better local "haunts"...

Alright people, I know I have been pretty slack lately getting my posts up and I'm sorry. As of yesterday I blame it on a nice case of spring fever. The weather has been in the upper 60's low 70's the past couple days and it's been absolutely lovely - I can't stay inside long enough to get anything done! ...like more posts. I know I have been a bit of a slacker posting here the past week. I promise to start posting more photos again soon. I am a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't even make it through the whole month of January before I started slacking off, so much for that 2009 goal!

Well it's the Monday after the Super Bowl and as usual there was a buzz about the commercials, I personally loved the chimp ad, that was hilarious. Oh and the Budwiser ad about cutting back on bud light in meetings... that definitely made me chuckle. I was a bit disappointed to see so many movie trailers and T.V. show commercials though... What were some of your favorite ads?

What an amazing day it has been! First I wake up to SNOW on the ground.. right here in Charlotte! That never happens, or hardly ever at least! Very exciting... Since I still had to go to work I didn't get to take many photos before leaving for the office; so here's one of melting snow with some nice visual texture.

And on another note - I watched in inauguration today and I'm super excited about our new president, Mr. Obama! I really do hope he do some great things for our country, goodness knows we need a change!

Sorry I missed my post last night, I was a bit distracted by the Wonderful World of Disney - I watched Snow White. You gotta love Dopey!

Well what an interesting day it's been, a plane crashes into the Hudson and I have co-workers on that plane! Thank God they are alright, the pilot did an amazing job of "landing" the plane so no one was greatly injured. As far as I know there are quiet a few jostled passengers and a few with cuts (some deep) and scrapes.

On a different note - its been quite chilly around here lately. I've had to break out the gloves! (Now that's chilly for Charlotte. Today's photo was choosen because this one in particular reminds me of how cold it can be... and how vast something as simple as a tree can be.

It was a very nice, and much needed, break from my computer this weekend. But I'm back to it! My Dad's birthday was over the weekend and we took him to a few wineries. It was a blast per usual and we had several good (and a few bad) wines! Here's a shot from the first place we hit, Owl's Eye Vineyard. The seller was very knowledgeable and we sampled several great wines - not to mention they have a very cool logo.

Elvis would have been 74 yr old today.
For those of you who know me... I love Elvis. In fact it's a game for people, especially my sister, to find Elvis things for me - coffee, wine, all sorts of tasty things! Some of the best coffee I've had!

Sometime there is nothing better than a good camera.

I love cameras, film, lenses, lights - all of it. Maybe it's more of the physicality of it; working with the film, the chemicals and the paper. I've been shooting a in digital for a couple years now and I still feel like I'm getting used to it. Digital is so... instantaneous. It's so easy to click - review - delete over and over again until you get the "right" photo. I've already noticed as I shoot my daily photo in digital I am paying less attention to lighting and composition because it is so easy to take a peak at what it looks like and delete it if I'm not satisfied - which happens a lot! So here's today's photo - a study in color, texture, and composition... and hopefully it'll make you hungry too!
